"Neverland", the fourteenth studio album by ULVER is the sound of an escape. A journey into undiscovered lands.

Following three albums – "The Assassination of Julius Caesar" (2017), "Flowers of Evil" (2020), and "Liminal Animals" (2024) – rooted in more traditional song and production structures, "Neverland" marks a new chapter in the revered Oslo band's history.

"With 'Neverland' we embraced a more 'punk' spirit – more dreaming, less discipline – freer, quite simply", the band comments on the creative process behind the album.

Bursts of daybreak synths and whooshes of sound set the atmosphere, before the wolves start digging into the dynamics of ambient calm and anarchic mysticism. Dreamy and transportive textures develop into trippy percussive energies, and as the album unfolds, a lush and vibrant, and at times exotic space opens.

Apart from a few recurring distant voices and vocal chops, "Neverland" is a largely instrumental record, reminiscent of the mood and structure of that place where late '90s IDM sounds met the meandering structures of post-rock.

The ghost of premillennial sample culture surely haunts "Neverland", and some might even hear echoes from earlier acclaimed works like "Perdition City" (2000), or the "Silence" EPs (2001), or more recently "ATGCLVLSSCAP" (2016).

Still, "Neverland" sounds and feels like something else, something fresh in ULVER's continuous journey of perennial reinvention. Pop music from in-between worlds? A sonic hallucination? Or better: a collage of dreams. It's up to you.
Their music combines the complexity of progressive rock, the grit of industrial, the precision of metal, the energy of punk, and the intelligence of jazz. The result is a sonic journey that is as cerebral as it is visceral, defying easy categorisation while remaining unmistakably ZU. "Ferrum Sidereum", which translates from Latin as "iron of (or from) the stars" refers to meteoric ore, which had a deep spiritual significance in ancient times and is contained in such artifacts as Egyptian ritual objects with Tutankhamun's meteoric iron dagger as the best known example or in some Tibetan "Phurpa" blades. Iron coming from the stars forms the elemental base that shapes ZU's otherworldly narrative on this album. The trio spent over a year refining this proliferating 80-minute epic through relentless rehearsals and live studio recordings in the city of Bologna. It soon emerged that the tracks had to be epic and needed space to live and breathe, meaning they would not conform to today's algorithm-driven norms. The last piece of the musical puzzle fell into place when three-time Grammy-winning sound engineer Marc Urselli expressed interest in recording and potentially producing ZU's next album through a mutual friend. This opportunity immediately caught the band's attention, as they had never worked with a producer and recognized the need for someone capable of guiding them to create an 80-minute album. Band and producer balanced raw intensity with refined production tweaks and textures. The result is a contemporary, rich, and immersive sound that defines "Ferrum Sidereum". ZU were founded in 1999 and already released their debut full-length "Bromio" the same year. Their collaboration with iconic FAITH NO MORE and MR. BUNGLE frontman Mike Patton on their 2009 album "Carboniferous" made a significant impact and raised the Italians' status. Through a spontaneous and organic creative process, ZU forged a fresh and innovative sound that seamlessly intertwines many layers of the Italian trio's musical heritage, drawing from progressive rock, metal, and industrial genres. "Ferrum Sidereum" beckons to discover a new musical universe!
AT THE END OF THE ROUGHEST YEAR in their history, Ulver is proud to release their thirteenth studio album, titled Liminal Animals.
Spin back one year. Almost out of nowhere, Ulver starts to drop new songs, sometimes one, sometimes two at the time, like the spectre and its cruel shadow. They are on a roll, doing whatever they want to, and with no immediate or strict concept other than to keep the beast alive.
“Quite liberating in these twilight years”, they said.
But as the pieces are laid out, the songs start to shape a world of their own. Creatures abound. Ghosts and spiders, gods and sheep. Flocks, swarms, and sensations. (See The Senseless Seven, Austin Osman Spare’s drawn self-portrait on the album cover.) There’s something in the air. Liminal Animals is permeated by the smell of disaster and documents, with deep concern, a dark and troubled place in a dark and troubled time. Yes, in the vast Ulver catalogue, now dating back 30 years, it wouldn’t be hard to argue that Liminal Animals can be seen as a continuation of its acclaimed predecessors The Assassination of Julius Caesar (2017) and Flowers of Evil (2020).
This time around, though, their reflections on the overwhelming confusion and conflict seem to have become more pronounced and explicit, as if the songs were born out of the acute intensity of the current situation.
What in the world is happening now?
Musically, the album opener ‘Ghost Entry’, which broke the silence almost one year ago, could indeed be seen as taking a lead from their previous albums. But Liminal Animals soon reveals itself to also be a reflection on their deeper history. The guitar and bass driven second track, ‘A City in the Skies’, might hint at the rockier moments of their Blood Inside album (2005), whereas the soothing, melancholic ‘Forgive Us’, featuring world-renowned trumpet player Nils Petter Molvær, and the smouldering ‘Locusts’ could have been relics from the years between Shadows of the Sun (2007) and Wars of the Roses (2011). Similarly, the album’s two haunted nocturnes could have been secret
transmissions from Ulver’s earlier electronic ambient oeuvre or the stellar experiments on ATGCLVLSSCAP (2016).
And one could go on like this, and never really hit the mark. What about the B-side opener, the infectious and anthemic ‘Hollywood Babylon’, or the final single ‘The Red Light’, both showcasing Stian Westerhus’s inventive guitar work, and among Ulver’s catchiest moments?
Liminal Animals feels and sounds like a record made by a band being on a threshold. Set in a perfect storm.
There’s no way around this: as the making of Liminal Animals commenced in 2022, Tore Ylvisaker, sound wizard, keyboardist, and a core member since 1997, had gradually drifted away from the pack. Initially to pursue other endeavours, before removing himself completely from the workings of the band. Everyone still reading knows what happened in August, as the rest of the pack was about to end the recording sessions. The absence of brother Tore, to whom Liminal Animals is dedicated, will forever haunt these tracks.
There’s a final song in here, too. ‘Helian’, a dark and intoxicated, 11-minute track, recorded in September, and featuring Jørn H. Sværen’s reading of the dreamlike and on the verge of delirious long poem by Georg Trakl (1887–1914). It is the eulogy no one could have expected, revealing Ulver’s continued exploration of groove, repetition, and texture. It is, I think, the inevitable rite of passage, a journey to the borders of language and the disintegrating form. Into the unknown.
As the intense flow of words ceases and the crackling beats and sounds recede, ‘Helian’ feels like the fulfilment of a promise. Wolves Evolve.
Where to go from here?

Tracklist:
1. Ghost Entry
2. A City in the Skies
3. Forgive Us (feat. Nils Petter Molvær)
4. Nocturne #1
The union of two creative forces with notable experience in the esoteric, Teleplamiste have emerged with a debut album of magical intensity and ecstatic fortitude. "Frequency is the New Ecstasy" conjures an audial liminal zone in which ancient methods and futuristic visions collide and collude.
This duo is formed by Mark O. Pilkington, whose work has extended from publishing countercultural and arcane literature with Strange Attractor Press to summoning rural drone reveries with Urthona, and Michael J. York, who brought his wide knowledge of traditional wind instruments to bear in bands that include Coil, Cyclobe, Guapo and The Stargazer's Assistant. The duo blur vintage synthesis and contemporary electronics with acoustic pipes to create a transcendent reverie that exists on a wavelength beyond both retro fetishism and modern-day machinations.
These six long, meditative pieces map out and extend into the infinite a pathway from the eerie realm of mid-twentieth century radiophonics, and the work of minimal iconoclasts like Daphne Oram and Else Marie Pade, through the kosmische music of the '70s such as Cluster and Tangerine Dream to contemporary modular synthesists such as Keith Fullerton Whitman and Lichens, following a vision imbued with power and singularity. Heavy ambience and otherworldly atmospherics marry here amidst an aura of epiphanic radiance.
Rich, transporting and thoroughly immersive, "Frequency is the New Ecstasy" is a thing of trance states both euphoric and unheimlich.

Limited 180 gram vinyl, thick (matte varnished) card stock, 180gsm printed inner sleeve, additional insert and protective PVC outer sleeve. 300 copies available.
The music is informed by a deep awareness and respect for prior esoteric traditions and counterculture currents, but forges a new and fertile synthesis very much its own.

The mesmerising cover art is by spirit painter and medium Ethel Le Rossignol, whose 1933 book of spiritualist teachings lends its name to the album’s second track: ‘A Goodly Company’. Another composition, ‘An Unexpected Visit’, incorporates a previously unheard trance recording of occultist Alex Sanders (aka the UK’s “King of the Witches”), made by Sanders himself in the 1980s.

The LP comes as 180 gram, in two colours, turquoise transparent (limited 250 copies) and classic black, a thick (350gsm) card stock with matte varnish. It has a printed inner sleeve and an additional card with a text written by Stephen Thrower.

David Tibet, writes of both albums:

"Born after the Death of my father, SLEEP HAS HIS HOUSE was a Threnody and a Requiem to him and a series of blinks at the passing of TREE and BIRD. Down by the River, Beside the Water, and none of these run ETERNAL, except the Immortal Bird, as high as sky. Now, in BED with House of Mythology, C93 are OverMoon to SLEEP again."

"My one Leg was in Tokyo, and my other Leg was in London, and I watched in Horror the Horsies rage by and I flew by and the Corn waved and the Trees bowed. This was BaddenedBlackenedTime, as I watched friends spin down and fall and fall—it is hard to keep riding when the structure is sliding. So that’s what I called HorseyTime, and I can still hear their fear. Now, in SADDLE with House of Mythology, C93 are OverMoon to RIDE again with this extended reissue."

Each DLP set is released as a limited edition in coloured opaque vinyl, as well as a standard edition in a different-coloured transparent vinyl, with both editions packaged in a single sleeve with a thicker 5mm spine. There is also an accompanying lyric-insert, as was the case when Sleep Has His House was originally released.

The 2CD is packaged in a gatefold mini-LP sleeve with deluxe card sleeve.
Sure, every thing is ending, but not yet. Ever since David Tibet’s Current 93 sung its birth canal blues back in the early 1980s, there's been a smell of apocalypse in the air. As the American author of horror novels Thomas Ligotti put it, Tibet has over the years presented us with words and images that are “portentous in a literal and most poetic sense.”* No matter how great or small, Tibet’s visions have sustained a sense of urgency throughout his many, many projects and towering work. 35 years on, as dark clouds once again are gathering on the horizon, his syncretic tale of the fallen empire inside us all seem to be as pertinent as ever. Arise for bad times.
Enter Zu93, the effectively named collaboration between Tibet and the ever-changing Italian group Zu, centered around Massimo Pupillo and Luca Mai. Seven years after the collaborators first met in Rome, the most beautifully apocalyptic city of all, they can finally present Mirror Emperor, mixed and produced by Stefano Pilia. If last year’s Create Christ, Sailor Boy, the startling Hypnopazūzu album Tibet made alongside Youth, the legendary producer and Killing Joke bassist, was “a transformative union,” the imperial ghost music presented on Mirror Emperor marks a return to their earth, a tour amidst the ruins: Gentle guitars, weeping cellos, the occasional rumbling bass and soft percussion, are melted and gently poured into the sepulchral engine. Despite a few electric swirls or the odd metallic screech Mirror Emperor moves seamlessly and comes across as surprisingly grounded and subtle, yet anticipatory, foreboding and at times even pastoral and Arcadian. The sound of a magical chamber orchestra or Cæsar Legions? Well, Mirror Emperor does echo pivotal moments from the respective catalogues of its creators, most urgently akin to Zu’s acoustic explorations on their 2014 collaboration with Eugene S. Robinson of Oxbow fame, The Left Hand Path, leading up to last year’s brilliantly metamorphic Jhator. For others the album will come as a gift from the blazing starres, more than hinting at a stripped down Current 93 of the 90s, perhaps in the same way as 2010’s Baalstorm, Sing Omega or Myrninerest’s 2012 album, ‘Jhonn,’ Uttered Babylon at times did.
“The album is the closing of a long circle for me,” comments Massimo Pupillo. “I’ve been following David’s work since the early days and count Current 93 as one of the main inspirations behind my work with Zu. For me his poetry and music is like a light in the depths of human experience, a soundtrack for one’s personal descent into the unconscious fields.” “Zu made something very beautiful and very powerful for me to skip into. I love this album,” Tibet says. Mirror Emperor adds another chapter in his ever-expanding oblique vision: personal, dense and hallucinatory. A voice through a cloud, indeed. On Mirror Emperor, the demiurge of our demise hides in the cracks of a broken world, beneath stones and moss, among the comets, in tears and things and on BloodBoats, as if a “cosmic melancholy” (Ligotti) is being articulated. More mourning than light. Tibet explains:
We all carry different faces, different masks, and all of them will be taken from us. We were born free, and fell through the Mirror into a UnWorld, a Mirror Empire. In this Mirror Empire we are under the Mirror Emperor, and there are MANY Bad Moons Rising. At the final curtain there is scant applause.

As the music fades out, we hear a whispered “awake.” “Every time I heard this final call to awakening while working on the album, I found myself deeply moved,” Pupillo says. “Awake. If this was the last word to come out of Zu, I would be a happy man.”
What we’re left with is a dreamlike suite, created under a murderous moon. Perhaps that is all we ever hoped for. Hey, was that the Apocalypse?

Zu93 is: David Tibet, Massimo Pupillo, Stefano Pilia, Luca Mai, Luca Tilli, Andrea Serrapiglio, Sara D’Uva.
He has released a slew of critically acclaimed solo albums via Rune Grammofon, the last one as Stian Westerhus & the Pale Horses in 2014.
¬You might see it in the stars or the root of a tree. It can be the flickering fluorescent light in the corner of a room or dew settling on a leaf in the early morning hours.

It is overwhelming, yet barely there.

Terminalia Amazonia, the new, subdued and momentous instalment of Zu, is the sound of a long, slow journey in pursuit of a moment. For the past four years the band’s members have regularly visited an undisclosed indigenous village on the Ucayali River close to the border between Peru and Brazil. They’ve immersed themselves in the local Shipibo-Conibo culture’s ancient knowledge, teachings and rituals, some of which stretch back millennia.

“What you hear on Terminalia Amazonia is the integration of worlds: the ancient shamanic songs of the Shipibo-Conibo tradition and our own search for sound and frequencies,” says Massimo Pupillo. The heart of the Shipibo-Conibo culture is rooted in their spiritual, physical, and cultural relationship to the Amazonian rainforest, and Zu’s work started as a series of nightly field recordings of the culture’s ceremonial healing songs, known as Icaros.

Five minutes into this 72-minute album, the listener will sense, intuitively, where it is coming from. Its tone and pace are those of human breath, vital, vulnerable, slowly revealing a lush, humid space that is sacred to the few who have journeyed there.
Playing only vintage analogue synthesizers (EMS Synthi, OSCar, Roland System-100M, ARP 2600, Octave-Plateau Voyetra-8), Zu project dense, spectral layers of sound through damp rainforest atmosphere, weaving through sheltered gulleys and out into open glades, mottled with streaks of scattered light. Spontaneous and elaborate, grounded and transformative, the sound conveys its shamanic intent, so immersing the listeners in the present moment that their surroundings will melt away.

“In the Amazonian tradition nature and man are not separated,” Pupillo says when describing the ceremonies they attended. “The Shipibo medicine men address the Noya Rao, a master plant. It is a tree considered a true teacher, and they sing their devotional songs to the powers of this and other plants, of the earth and of the stars. For them, the chants create a connection with a world beyond the visible one, a world of spirits.”

As I listen, I can’t help but to think of the threats that the Shipibo and their ancestral territories are now facing: the extensive fields of ash and cinders, eating their way into the green-leafed world. The advancing deforestation, oil spills and contamination of their rivers and waterways.

The Inca Empire never conquered the Shipibo and they resisted colonization by the Spanish priests who appeared in the rainforest over four centuries ago. But the forces of global economy have left the villages on the Ucayali River more vulnerable than ever before. In this, Terminalia Amazonia hides a secret sadness.

Still, Pupillo emphasizes that this is not an anthropological, ethnographical, or even a political project. First and foremost, Terminalia Amazonia presents a personal story of descent and ascent, the burden of dreams and the need for new discoveries: “it contains a subjective narrative, shaped within our own Western, Mediterranean consciousness. There has been enough appropriation and exploitation of Shipibo culture by outsiders and we don't want to add to that. We don't want to wear another people's clothes. The band is Italian and our psyche is and will always be rooted in Mediterranean mythology. The descent and the way back to the surface will for us always be connected to Demeter and Persephone, the Eleusinian mysteries that shaped the form known as tragedy,” he says.

Tragos, the goat, will always be at the door.

By entering this ancient space, Zu have found a place to mourn the past and nurture the ability to welcome the change that inevitably accompanies the future. It took time for them to return, because to be lost is also to be fully present, and to be comfortable living with uncertainty and mystery. “This is music made by four people who grew up together and have stood next to each other for what is now a lifetime,” says Pupillo. “It is the result of a deeper connection, going beyond our experiences as a band. In a sense it is about survival.” Yes, perhaps that is what Terminalia Amazonia is all about.

It is overwhelming, yet barely there.
In the Pont de l'Alma tunnel the car swerves into a roof-supporting pillar and in the echo of the metallic roar dies Diana, the Princess of Wales. The world has lost one of its greatest icons and the morbidity of popular culture hits a new high. The story is strangely resonant with the myth of the Greek goddess Artemis (Roman: Diana) and the hunter Actaeon, who, after having seen the goddess bathing naked, is turned into a stag and torn to pieces by his own hunting hounds. This picture opens Ulver's 13th album, The Assassination of Julius Caesar.

Such historical quantum leaps often occur in Ulver's musical universe, which has never been bound by any physical law. And the band's unruly play with myth, history and popular culture has never been more manifest than now. From the assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II on one day in May 1981, to the queer, black house with the address 6114 California Street, San Francisco, better known as the headquarters of Anton LaVey's Church of Satan - Ulver moves seamlessly through time and space, and manages, in their own strange ways, to create a coherent tableau with a deeply personal backdrop. "I want to tell you something / about the grace of faded things," as it goes in the song "Southern Gothic".

Those familiar with this stubborn pack of wolves from Oslo will not be surprised that they also this time round are shifting shape. Never afraid of challenging or redefining current musical conventions, Ulver has now enacted what they are calling "their pop album". You don't have to worry about vexing radio humdrum or pastel ear candy though - Talk Talk and Music Machine are pop music as good as any in the universe of Ulver. A universe where "pop" is more a mark of distinction, denoting immediacy and possible body movement. Factory Records and Welcome to the Pleasuredome. The Assassination of Julius Caesar is an album the band has been longing to do for many years, to delve into the music of their childhood, along with the now fading memories and drifting clouds of romance.

After the (to them) surprising success of last year's hybrid ATGCLVLSSCAP, released on the recently established House of Mythology, the way was eventually cleared for a full status studio album from Ulver. Not since Shadows of the Sun, now ten years of age, has the band worked under such clearly defined criteria, staying true to an aesthetics. Such music is never easily conceived, but Ulver's unyielding ethos of following their instincts has again showed them the way. Fear of repetition and standstill is just as instinctive in the mind of this group as hunger is for their counterparts in nature.

The core crew behind this album is Kristoffer Rygg, Jørn H. Sværen and Tore Ylwizaker, in company with Ole Alexander Halstensgård, who has also been an important contributor to earlier albums. As usual, there are prominent guests, the renowned experimental guitarist Stian Westerhus puts his personal signature on several tracks, the same goes for associated members Anders Møller and Daniel O'Sullivan. Legendary Hawkwind shaman Nik Turner adds his sax to "Rolling Stone".

The Assassination of Julius Caesar is mixed by Martin "Youth" Glover, known from bands such as Killing Joke and The Fireman (with Paul McCartney), plus producer of The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony" and many other major players. The result is epic and wide-scoped as a historical drama, without ever mollycoddling the listener.

"What have I done to leave you here," asks vocalist and primus motor Kristoffer Rygg on the last track, "Coming Home". Since Ulver was formed a quarter of a century ago, their musical odyssey has taken them round the world in many shapes. This year will see them perform in select places with a new spectacular live production. And even if Ulver might have brought home the game with their most ambitious and majestic work thus far, rest assured that the wolves will keep on following you through the night.
This otherworldly creation further elevates the artistic journey begun in 2021 with the stunning Thymiamatascension, which explored space, silence, texture, and the mysterious charm of the night.
This exclusive vinyl release comes as a DLP featuring two 180-gram vinyl discs, encased in a robust 350gsm gatefold sleeve. Each record is protected in black poly-lined disco bags and carefully packaged outside the sleeve to prevent seam splits, all secured within a protective plastic sleeve for optimum preservation.
